Increasing Your Business By Being YOU

As a Coach, I work with many people to increase their business and thus their profitability. I watch often as my clients step into activities (sales and marketing techniques) which are uncomfortable for them.  They push themselves to do things they believe works.  Of course, they read about this particular technique some place, heard it from someone or know the individual who was successful with it.  Being creatures of reference (if we have a reference that works for someone else, we're willing to give it a chance) we often look to others for suggestions.  All of this is wonderful and can indeed increase your bottom line.  My question to you is:  When all is said and done, is it worth the struggle?  If you honestly answer yes, then keep doing what you are doing because it is working for you.   If, on the other hand, you are way out of your comfort zone and the struggle is draining you, please allow me to make a few suggestions.

To remove the struggle from business, bring YOU into the picture.  What drew you to this business?  What were you excited about when you opened your doors?  What is your passion?  What ignited your heart?  Get curious about the answers to these questions and listen carefully to what comes back to you in your mind.  The response to these questions and others like these will move you from struggle to attraction, flow, synchronicity, etc.  In other words, business will come to you for being YOU.  It's been my experience that if you answer the questions above and create a set of values and standards (or principles) for your company which reflect YOU, you will know the difference between stretching and struggle.  Stretching your muscles in business as in exercise is an amazing way to grow and get stronger.  Struggle, whether in business or exercise, will tear away at the muscle and sometime bring injury.  Stretching is good and necessary for growth.  As in physical exercise, learn how to stretch in a healthy way each day.

The moral of the story is, "Do what you love and love what you do!  This is easy when you get out of your head and into your heart."  When you are in your heart, you are in your passion/element of success.  When you are in your passion, life has a flow to it.  Even when you experience a bit of a valley, you know that the next hill will be a good challenge.  You have built your muscles to understand that stretching is good and bring you new found energy.

I'm sure you have seen the movie, Field of Dreams.  The main character stayed true to his dream even though there was amazing chaos around him.  A newer movie, Under the Tuscan Sun, is a must-see if you really want to transform your way of thinking.

Most importantly, please remember to enjoy the process!

Coaching Challenge

Step back this month and take a look at your business.  Start with what's working.  Next take a look at the areas of struggle.  Lastly, remind yourself why you opened your doors.  Now, with this basic information, get out there and increase your business by being YOU! Oh and by the way, go see the above movies, and let me know what you think. Have an amazing month!

Edie's Book Club

Now, Discover Your Strengths
Authors: Marcus Buckingham and Donald Clifton

Effectively managing one's own behavior is an extraordinarily complex task that, not surprisingly, has been the subject of countless books touting what each claims is the true path to success. That said, Marcus Buckingham and Donald O. Clifton's Now, Discover Your Strengths does indeed propose a unique approach: focusing on enhancing people's strengths rather than eliminating their weaknesses. This book fully describes 34 positive personality themes the two have formulated (such as Achiever, Developer, Learner, and Maximizer) and explains how to build a "strengths-based organization" by capitalizing on the fact that such traits are already present among those within it. Most useful, however, is a Web-based interactive component that allows readers to complete a questionnaire and instantly discover their own top-five inborn talents. This device provides a personalized window into the authors' management philosophy which, coupled with subsequent advice, places their suggestions into the kind of practical context that's missing from most similar tomes.
