Having a Plan and Working the Plan
Well, here we are again at the end of another amazing year. One of my teachers in high school told me that, "the older you get, the faster the years fly by". Boy, was she right! 2003 flew by with amazing experiences, and here I am preparing for 2004.
As I have worked with my clients during the past month, the main focus was on creating a vision for the next year. I know I find myself using the week between Christmas and New Year's to clean out the old in order to bring on the new. What that means is that I remove old files and distractions and create a space for new business. There's something for me in feeling like there is a new beginning on January first. Here are a few things you may want to do the create a plan and a vision that serves you in the coming year.
Take 30 minutes to dream.... What exactly would you like to be celebrating at the end of next year? Which accomplishments will mean the most to you? How will you have raised your standards? Get clear and write it down, maybe even say it out loud to one of your close supporters, and send it to your coach.
Take time to declutter your space (office and otherwise).... Use the theme "taking out the old to bring on the new". We have a natural tendency to collect things. Remind yourself that with today's technology, almost all information you may need is at your fingertips and if you can't find it, someone else can. How many of those folders are filled with antiquated information or simply things you no longer have an interest in? All of these papers are energy drains and take away some of your personal creativity. My friend and first coach, Jeff Raim, once stated that everything I ever heard or read was permanently documented in my subconscious. This statement has given me tremendous freedom from paper, notes, etc. Try it -- you might get the same result.
Create a theme.... I've been using this technique for years and it has served me better than most anything I have ever worked with. With all of the distractions in our lives, having a theme will help you to have focus. Go back to the work you did with the dream earlier. If you were to put a short label on your outcome for 2004, what would it be? Create a phrase which you can use over and over again to center you and ground you in your intentions for the year. Make the theme short and sweet so you will remember it easily. If you need to, put it on 3 x 5 cards and carry it around with you or post it in places where you will look at it on a regular basis.
Create a time line.... What would you like to accomplish in the first quarter, second quarter, etc? What specific things do you need to work on to be able to truly celebrate your dream at the end of the year? How will you put those habits into your lifestyle so they permanently enhance who you are and what you stand for?
There are four simple steps AND they may take you a day or two to complete. I will promise you that if you do the work now, you will indeed celebrate on 12/31/04!! Abundance will be yours in more ways than you can count!!
Happy Holidays to you all and thank you for your support during 2003. I am looking forward to greater interaction with each of you with new products and classes coming in 2004!!
Coaching Challenge
Decide which day between 12/27 and 12/31 you will devote to your 2004 planning. Gather a friend or two to do the same thing on the same day and then check in with each other on an hourly basis to see how you each are doing. Motivate each other and celebrate with each other as you complete each of the steps above. There is indeed power in numbers and the energy you will create will serve you throughout the year.
Please share your wins with us and we will celebrate with you also!!
